CLIMATE CHANGE

The Malawi Environment Protection Authority (MEPA) clearly understands the impact climate change has on the environment. In accordance with its mandate, the authority attaches great importance to the protection and management of the environment and sustainable utilization of natural resources in reducing the impacts of climate change in Malawi. For this reason MEPA work with various stakeholders who among thers include City and District Councils, Ministries and Departments, Civil Society and Non-Governmental Organisations to ensure adherence to regulations put in place to stop environmental degradation which also exacerbate the effects of climate change.

Environmental Compliance and Enforcement

MEPA has a robust compliance monitoring and enforcement programme necessary to ensure sustainable management of the environment. This  will ensure high levels of compliance with environmental laws and regulations through implementation of effective compliance tools – including inspections, monitoring activities, investigations, and review of self-reported compliance monitoring information to determine if regulated entities are complying with environmental statutes as well as applicable regulations and permit conditions.
